The Bridge

The purpose of a bridge is to allow someone to cross over to the other side. Jesus is the bridge between God and man. He is the only way for us to get to the Father.

Could someone cross over to the other side by another means? Sure, they can try. Let's say this bridge is over a body of water. Someone could swim across, or they could use a boat. But that doesn't mean they'll be accepted into the Kingdom of God. To be accepted by God, to get into heaven, we must go through the bridge, which is Jesus Christ.

This reminds me of Matthew 7:22-23 where Jesus said, "On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'

It does not work when we try to get to God without having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Imagine the lessons we learn on our journey across the bridge. It represents our life with Jesus, walking with Him every day until we meet Him face to face. If we try to get to God by any other means, for example, swimming across instead of walking across the bridge, we do not experience the same things we would if we were to cross the bridge and have a relationship with Jesus.

Jesus is the only way to the Father. The difference between the bridge and the other methods is that, with the bridge the work is already done, but with the other ways people try to get to God, they try to do it on their own. To accept Jesus is to accept God. Any other way will not work.
